In the beginning of a weight loss program, goals can seem unreachable, and the process might feel joyless. It is far too easy to start out in full speed ahead both guns blazing mode, only to turn into a sullen half-squeezed rag of a person with broken dreams. Lethargy is all you will feel towards your routines. How do people stay motivated to lose weight and stay thin? How can some people remain motivated while others fall flat?
Before you do anything else, decide on some realistic weight loss goals. Do you want to lose a lot of weight, or do you just want to be able to fit into some clothes that have been too tight for some time? Is it that you want to be healthier and feel fitter? Giving yourself concrete goals gives you something to strive for.
Adding a daily journal to your weight loss routine has a number of benefits. When you take note of your progress, you will always be on top of your goals. Checking your weight weekly will assist you in following your progress. Don’t overlook adding a diary, or record, of your food intake. Keeping a daily record of the foods you eat allows you to see which choices are doing more harm than good and to make adjustments accordingly. Reading over your notes will remind you of your progress, and also help you see what methods were and were not working for you.
If you wait until you are starving, you may be more likely to make bad food decisions. When you’re out, you need to pack some healthy foods to take with you to avoid this trouble. Packing your own lunch for work or school is preferred to ordering food from a restaurant or getting fast food. Making your own lunch keeps you in charge of your caloric intake and will stop the temptation to eat out in its tracks. Save your waistline and your wallet when you bring your own lunch.
A successful weight loss program consists of proper eating habits along with regular exercise. It is important that you take part in workouts that you enjoy a minimum of five times a week. If you are having trouble including exercise in your normal schedule, try to focus on having fun, rather than doing a workout. Find an activity that you enjoy and make time to do that. How about spending time with your male friends? Take them on in a game of basketball. Are you a wild one? Learn some new moves in a dance class. Do you love nature? Put on your hiking boots and enjoy nature while walking toward fitness.
Keep anything you can’t eat out of your home. At first that might be a shock to your family, but guess what? If it’s not good for you to eat, chances are it’s not good for them to eat either. Make sure your cupboards and fridge are filled with healthy food choices your whole family can enjoy. This doesn’t mean you have to go without snacks! One of the best snacks for both adults and children is fresh fruit. Granola is another good choice, among many other options.
Be sure to tell your friends and family all about your choice to lose weight. Your family’s support can be the inspiration you need to continue working on your weight loss goal. Get together with your supporters when you feel like quitting so you can get motivated again.
