Sometimes it can seem like it’s impossible to reach your weight loss goals. You start out motivated and ready to conquer the world, but fear and confusion can put a damper on that feeling pretty fast. How do people stay motivated to lose weight and stay thin? What are the secrets to successful weight loss?
Figuring out your weight loss goals and setting a number for how much weight you want to lose comes first. Do you just want to shave off those few extra pounds you gained over the holidays, or do you want to fit into clothing that is a size or two smaller than what you currently wear? Figure out why losing weight is important to you. Do you want to drop a dress size? To reach a specific weight goal? Or maybe you just want to improve your health and energy levels?
Set a goal to keep track of your progress every week. Weigh yourself once a week, and log what you eat in a food journal each day. Recording our decisions makes us more conscious of those decisions.
Choosing foods after you are already hungry is setting yourself up to fail. Self control can be non-existent, especially when you are hungry. Plan out each meal ahead of time and bring snacks along. Bring your lunch with you whenever you get the chance. By packing a lunch, you are saving money and avoiding potentially bad choices while at work or school.
A successful weight loss program consists of proper eating habits along with regular exercise. You have to take the time for physical activities that you actually want to do. If you keep neglecting exercise because it is boring, then use the activities you enjoy to get some exercise. Maybe you like chilling with your friends. Shoot some hoops with them! Are you a wild one? Dance classes may be the way to go. Are you more comfortable with nature? Hit those hiking trails!
Ditch the junk food if you want to avoid it. Ask yourself whether it makes more sense to try and keep it out of sight or to just not buy it in the first place. If your cupboards and refrigerator are stocked with healthy food choices that are easily accessible, you increase your chances of eating these foods for snacks and meals.
Have your friends help you meet your goals. It is important to have someone that motivates you to lose weight. By calling you friends, you will have that extra motivation you need when you feel like giving up.
