It can seem like you will never lose weight. Beginning a routine is the easy part; the hard part is keeping it up every single day. Why do others succeed? There seem to be people who have an easier time keeping off the weight. What do they do that is different?
First and foremost, you need to figure out what you want to accomplish and set mini goals to help you reach your ultimate weight loss goal. Do you want to slim down for a special occasion? Are your weight loss goals very specific or do you just want to become a bit thinner and leaner? Is weight loss something you want to achieve for personal reasons, or is it something you need to achieve for medical necessity? Those are the questions you need to answer.
Check and document your progress on a weekly basis. Be sure to write in your weight loss journal frequently and weigh yourself only once a week. List the foods you eat in a daily food diary that is part of your journal. Writing down what you put into your body will make you more aware of your choices, inspiring you to make healthier decisions.
When you are famished, it is not good to decide what you are going to eat. Planning your meals in advance and keeping healthy snacks on hand will help you avoid reaching for unhealthy foods. Packing a lunch will help you save money, and it is also a healthier option than eating out.
The key to losing weight and keeping it off is to eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and exercise daily. Some people have a harder time incorporating an exercise routine into their lives than a healthy eating plan. Find ways to make exercising less of a chore, perhaps by working out with a partner or finding an activity you enjoy. If you can do the two together, even better! Start cycling or hiking with a friend or join the same gym.
This is always the first bit of advice in a weight loss program, yet very few people follow it. Throw away all the unhealthy snacks and junk food from your home! If they are not in your kitchen, you cannot easily get to them when a craving for junk food hits. Have healthy alternatives at hand instead, such as fruit, vegetables and yogurt. All the things that are bad for you should be discarded. You will not crave them so much when you don’t see them.
Enlist the help of your friends. Of course, you must lose the weight for yourself, but still, it’s nice to have a cheering section to keep you going. Know who you will reach out to when you are feeling down and unmotivated. Friends can support you throughout your journey.
